Taxi drivers clear city centre pavements

http://www.lep.co.uk/news/Taxi-drivers- ... 5970788.jp

Taxi drivers cleared icy city centre pavements after witnessing a string of slips and injuries.

Cabbies waiting at the Friargate rank in Preston city centre used shovels to chip away at the ice on Saturday night.

Peter Tyson, spokesman for the Preston Hackney Carriage Association, said he witnessed one man cut his head open and another knocked unconscious after falling on Friday night.

He said: "We had a chat among the drivers and decided to bring shovels with us on Saturday to clear up the pavement."

Of course you know who would be sued if someone should fall on the pavement where it had been cleared.
This is one reason that councils don't clear pavements. If some one slips on ice or snow that has fell from the sky or has formed naturally then it is an accident by "act of God". However once someone starts to clear the snow, they are taking responsibility for any mishaps that may occur.

Yet another example of how this country wouldn't, or couldn't, cope without the taxi/PH trade. :D

Fair play to the Preston lads even if they did engineer the publicity. We all need to work on our trades public image.
