They want to save on taxis http://news.scotsman.com/health.cfm?id=1475912004 so instead of spending ten or twenty quid on a cab, they will no doubt spend at least double that on ambulances.

i think the point they are trying to make is that in daytime doctors and nurses can get a bus to work.

the same thing happens down here. we have a NHS contract and you often here drives saying that it get abused by the hospital staff who use the NHS account to take them in to town on the beer.
