Cabbie attacked over fare
POLICE are hunting a man who attacked a taxi driver after refusing to pay his fare for a journey from South Shields to Jarrow.
The 42-year-old driver was left bleeding and in need of hospital treatment after being punched in the face.
The assault happened in Railway Street, Jarrow, on Sunday between 5am and 5.30am, after the cabbie asked for his fee for the journey.
The suspect, who had been picked up outside the Northern Rock branch in Fowler Street, South Shields, in the silver Renault Megane saloon, ran off after the attack.
He is described as white, with short dark hair and medium to slim build, and is believed to be in his 30s.
He was wearing a black coat and jeans.
