Mini cab driver based in West Hendon arrested for serious sexual assault during police operation

A MINI cab driver wanted on suspicion of a “serious” sexual assault was arrested during a police operation last week.

Officers from the Hendon Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) carried out the clamp down on illegal cab services in the area last Saturday.

With the assistance from Barnet's cab enforcement team, the officers, led by police community support officer Mark Prentice, targeted cab firms in Hendon, West Hendon and Colindale.

Police said the “two-fold” operation aimed to disrupt and detect people using taxis as transport to assist in crimes, as well as ensuring drivers working for companies in the area had the correct documentation and insurance.

Police first entered taxi offices to ensure their employees complied with the correct job regulations, then carried out stop checks on a busy route in the area to examine the documentation of the cab drivers.

Through the sting, officers were able to identify a driver who was wanted “on a matter of serious sexual assault”. He was found to be working for a firm based in West Hendon and was promptly arrested by police.

Sergeant Steve Peyton, from the West Hendon SNT, said they will continue their work to tackle illegal cab drivers while supporting the lawful drivers who are disrupted by them.

He said: "People who use taxi's, in particular after an evening of enjoyment should be able to use these services safe in the knowledge that the driver is in full possession of all documentation and insurance and that they are of a trustworthy character.

“People can be very vulnerable when using taxi's after a night out and have a right to put their trust in the taxi driver to get them home safely.”

Let's hope the operator loses their license as well.

Why is the operator at fault if the driver committed the offence there was no suggestion in the op that the operator had known about or helped cover up the offence ?

How many of your drivers, or drivers you give work to, are wanted for serious sexual crimes? :?
