When vat was reduced to 15% in January '09 your chancellor levied an extra 2p per litre of fuel, to compensate for the loss of revenue from the vat reduction, now that vat has now gone back to 17.5% we think it only fair that you reduce the the duty again by the same amount, ie 2p per litre.

Done and distributed to my contact list!!

There have been a couple of these petitions that have worked in the past. I think one of them may have been fuel related.

Rakes in millions a day in revenue for the Government. Do you think they will really drop the duty on fuel???

Really! These petitions are just a way of making joe public think that they are making a protest. Do you realy think the prime minister is actually going to read them? Some low end office worker will be sending out the replies and I can imagine an aide interupting the PM whilst he is trying to "sort out" world issues saying "oh by the way a few thousand people want you to take 2p off fuel" It isn't going to happen is it. The only thing that I can remember working, for a short time, was when the hauliers blockaded the fuel depots.

Well, I presume that you two have signed it, otherwise we'll never know if they work, will we?

I think it safe to presume that I haven't signed it. I have signed petitions on the downing street site before and the response from the PM at the end has always seemed like lip service to me so I won't bother signing another. But Hey, if you think it is worth it that is fine by me.
