Cabbie attacked with hammer A cabbie was brutally attacked with a hammer after a row with another driver about picking up fares. Black cab driver Choudhry Nazir needed eight stitches to his face after the assault in Manchester city centre. The father-of-four, from Chorlton, challenged the driver of a private hire vehicle after he picked up a couple near the Printworks. Mr Nazir said: “I saw him pick up a Chinese couple from outside the Printworks. He should not have picked them up off the street – private hire vehicles must have a pre-arranged booking. “I drove after him and flashed my lights at him. He stopped and got out on Cross Street. “I asked him what he thought he was doing picking people up like that and he hit me full in the face with a hammer. He then drove off with the couple he had picked up still in his car. “The blow was close to my eye. It almost knocked me out. There were three or four witnesses and someone called an ambulance. “I was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary. “The guy who hit me was Asian and a body-building type. He should have had private hire licence plate displayed on his bumper but it was inside the car near the rear windscreen – which is illegal. “Black cab drivers have been asking the town hall for years to crack down on private hire drivers picking up fares like this – when they do so they are not insured and so the people who get into their vehicles are at risk.” A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The victim was found bleeding badly. The attacker was in a white estate car and it was later spotted in Upper Brook Street. Surely the first thing anyone would do would be to get the plate number. But I can't see the scumbag attacker getting away with this. |

The first thing to do was try to take a picture of this car, either with a mobile phone or a cheap digital camera (which we should all cary). The second thing is dont chase any car, why ? and the third thing is dont get out if you should catch one. Then hammers dont hurt. |
