The Institute of Licensing is undertaking a survey, about the Taxi Service industry, this survey will be used as a tool to lobby the Government reform on the outdated legislation response are wanted from not only Licensing Officers, but users and also the workers within in the trade.


If you have time for the trade then take a few minutes if you can to take part in the survey

Last years IOL policy of a single tier system of licensing is a decent starting point, all licensed vehicles plying for hire? no thank you.

So how would you distinguish those you would like to ply for hire against those you wouldn't within your favoured single tier licence?

Not sure the Captain is a fan of single tier.

But the IoL would say why should we distinguish full stop.

One license, to ply and to take radio work.

On the contrary, I think if we disagree with anything then the only course of action should be to make your views known. I have no idea how influential these people are and only came across their link in another forum discussion and thought it may be useful here also. If what they propose is going to affect us then our views will only be heard if we make them known rather than talk amongst ourselves, IMO.

I know where your coming from stf but in so far as I am concerned the IOL have never been particular fans of the cab trade, they appear to support delimitation, they are continually calling for new taxi legislation without actually telling people what the new legislation should be.

Their plan for the taxi trade announced last year after another consultation was ridiculed, after they said we shoul have a single tier made up of three different tiers, it would have been unenforcable imo.

They call for new laws, as stated, but any new laws will not be that far away from what we already have, so lets keep the current legislation and modify it.

What I will say about the IoL is that they are a bit of a weird lot.

Despite being invited to join the Meetings of Minds group, they still seem to think they can cure all the trade's woes on their own, and that's a bit daft.

They haven't quite grasped that for anything to go forward they need the support of the other major stakeholders in the trade.

Their continual banging on about a single tier system might have some support, but it ain't going to happen.

If they can answer the question as to how they are going to get the London black cab trade and the London private hire trade all meeting the same standards and entry requirements, then maybe I would give that policy more credence.

But any of us with more than two brain cells knows that will never happen, which makes it all the more strange the IoL think it could.

Who are the IOL..is it A government body or is it an Independant Quango of Intellectuals just trying to keep themselves on fatcat wages by spouting what they think will keep them in with the present government.

Why have they an axe to grind?..the system aint perfect and nor will it ever be and im sure this lot wont be the magical panacea that they like to think they are.

Maybe that is where the difference lies in that almost ALL other clown Halls than the Capital already license both PH and Hacks under the same standards. So it seems conceivable for them to consider both as the same thereby saving themselves some work trying to police the conflicting bylaws. That of course is one sided and only looks at life from their perspective and I feel we need to be in there making a noise for those in authority to take notice of our concerns from the trade.
