Pink Ladies bosses in council plea

PINK Ladies bosses have questioned how the council is run after the company’s request to save the borough money was rejected.

Andrea Winders, co-director of the members group, launched four years ago, said Pink Ladies has called for the council to drop its opposition at the company’s appeal which is to be held at Warrington Crown Court on February 19.

Andrea said: “We want to work with Warrington Borough Council and save them money. The appeal will not affect them at all.

“It won’t affect us if we win or lose. I am doing it to say bury the hatchet, save the council some money, let’s try to do something positive.”

Pink Ladies, which is based at Hawthorne Business Park, Hawthorne Street, came head-to-head with the council in July last year during a trial. The firm, which transports vulnerable women, was said to be a sham by District Judge Ross, who said Pink Ladies was operating without appropriate licences.

Both Andrea and Tina Dutton, co-director, were ordered to pay £2,750 and Julia Richardson, a driver, was ordered to pay a £50 fine and £50 costs after being found guilty of driving without a private hire licence.

But the business vowed to motor on and continue to be a ‘lifeline’ for vulnerable women in the town.

In November it secured a Government licence to operate as a non-profit making community transport operation.

It is now licensed under Vehicle and Operator Services Agency standards (VOSA) – a Government agency – rather than the local authority.

Andrea said: “My main aim was to take away the potential for them gaining extra legal costs on top of the £28,000 already accrued. We are now licensed with VOSA, so any outcome of the appeal will not affect us apart from the lifting the criminal convictions on Tina and I personally.”

Andrea claims that a letter from Diana Terris, chief executive of Warrington Borough Council, to Lord Hoyle, former Warrington North MP, said opposition could not be withdrawn, on the grounds of public interest.

And this slag thinks VOSA will ignore their convictions when up-held?

How dare the council spend money on upholding the law!!!..especially after all the generosity and advice that the head Hag has offered to them to stop the council for their obvious sense of fairplay.

And anyway...how many unpaid volunteer hen drivers are going to roll out at 3.30am to fetch the vulnerable Stotting Jenny back from the local club for nowt.

I think perhaps we should ask questions about those who bought pink ladies franchises.......by all accounts many have lost thousands.

The whole Pink Ladies situation is a farce, and has been from the start. This business is an unlicensed private hire set-up and nothing more.

If I bought a black TX1 and ran around the streets of Liverpool, London or wherever plying for hire then I would be stopped, most likely within hours. Full stop.

If I advertised an unlicensed PH firm, drove a silver Mondeo and took bookings without bothering to get a plate / badge then I would hopefully be stopped. Full stop.

The fact that Pink Ladies do the same thing, but in a pink Renault Kangoo, makes it somehow OK? This problem needs to be addressed. Quickly.

I really don't know why nobody believes that these two kind hearted philanthropists simply want to help other women...and totally free of charge at that. I mean to say...they seem so genuine and professional.

But seriously...where's a f*****g sniper when you need one.

(I'd guess that this youtube clip must have been posted on here before, but worth another BRIEF viewing all the same...until too painful to watch!)

Who said it was free of charge? They can charge, providing they don't make a profit. There is a difference.
Legitimate expences can be very high. Veleting the car can be £50 a pop and may need doing on a weekly basis, a car wash every day for a fiver. Weekly safety inspections of the brakes etc could cost say £30 a week. You can soon rack up some costs if you need to.

As I said when they started, if they'd have gone down the licensing route like everybody else has to they'd have got a lot more credit.

Yet we hear tales of them doing school contracts etc

I think a certain person in the PH trade should be holding his head in shame for advising these people to take the volunteer drivers route , especially considering how much he's written about the abuse of the system.
