Hi guys I submitted an application for a taxi operator licence with my local authority which at the time was made up of zones. I applied for a certain zone which a unmet demand survey had concluded was impossible to measure demand in as there were no taxi stands. The report also suggested that the zones be removed to allow all taxis the freedom to operate throughout our local authority. Following the report the local licensing committee decided to remove the zones but licensees have to apply for a variation to their licences. The question I ask is should my application in front of the committee be treated as one for the original zone, and therefore issued as unmet demand could not be measured, or, be treated as one for the new unrestricted area ? Hope this makes sense ! |

You have applied for a zone that no-longer exists, as the council has merged zones. So your council should consider your application as an application for the whole area. But as your council has no evidence of SUD for the whole area they should issue you with a license. If they say your application is not valid, then apply again. You are applying for an area that has no evidence of no SUD, so they should have no option than to grant your application. But then again you are dealing with brainless f***witts who operate under the guise of councillors. |

Thanks for the advice Sussex, I meant to add that no unmet demand was measured in the other zones as they did have ranks. I will let you all know how I get on as I am in front of the committee in a few weeks Cheers |

Having no ranks isn't an excuse, as that committee has the powers to put them where ever they so choose. Try not to get bogged down on the zones issue, the application is for a plate that the council issue. As they can't prove no SUD for the whole area they must grant it. |
