More police patrols call

The director of a Dundee taxi firm, targeted by vandals, today called for more police patrols in the Maryfield area (writes Katie Smyth).

Charlie Duthie’s Tay Taxis premises in Clepington Road had one of the front windows smashed around 10.15 last night when a traffic cone was thrown through it.

No one was injured in the incident, but Charlie said it could have been serious had the vandals broken the second front window.

“There’s two windows on the front of the building,” he explained.

“One is for the office the controller sits in, and if they’d gone for that, the controller could have been seriously hurt. But they smashed the one on the room where we keep a lot of valuable equipment, and some of it was damaged.”

Charlie estimated that around £200 worth of damage was done to the computer wiring and harnesses vital for monitoring the taxi service, on top of the £150 it will cost to replace the window.

It is not the first time the business has suffered at the hands of vandals, as the car wash to the rear of the taxi office was targeted twice in the past month.

“We have since put up security lights round the back,” Charlie said.

Today he called for a heightened police presence in Clepington Road, saying, “There’s hoodies running about on bikes at night up to no good in the area. There needs to be more police patrols.”

Police are also investigating a similar incident where a window was smashed at Whitfield Parish Church in Haddington Crescent overnight Friday/Saturday.

Tayside Police appealed for anyone who has any information relating to these incidents to get in touch on 0300 111 2222, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

the office is manned 24 hours a day and as stationtone said is on a very busy road ,not a likely target for vandals ,no doubt our hard working police force will get to the bottom of this
