Cabbies stopped during taxi trade clampdown
Nine cabbies were suspended from using their vehicles during a multi-agency taxi trade clampdown.
A total of 76 drivers were stopped during the operation, which was aimed at taking unlicensed and unsafe taxis off Medway’s roads.
Four cabbies were issued with verbal warnings for minor offences and a further 13 were given advice on car defects they need to rectify.
Medway Council’s community safety boss Rehman Chishti said: “The safety of the public is of paramount importance to the Council and our partners.
“We want Medway residents to be confident and feel safe when they hail a cab in Medway.
“Operations like this, which again proved very successful, helps to ensure that happens.”
Medway has the biggest taxi fleet in the county with more than 750 vehicles and drivers.
