Red Cabman on Fasties (Private Reggie, on TDO) Writes:

Isn't it time we called for a reduction in the cost of renting a Radio? Your currently talking over £400 a month!!! For what i ask? A realistic figure would be £300 per month? Turnover was more 10 years ago, the trade is on its knee's surely the cost of a radio should reflect the market?

I'm horrified to learn that the cost of a 7 night taxi rental with say City and Central is now over the £300 per week mark, if you add fuel to that? The cost of renting a Taxi has got to come down to around the £250 mark for 7 nights?.

The Thing that bothers me is that we accept the rising cost's to the Trade, is it not time to start moaning about the rising cost's to drivers and owners.

This is the main reason we need one company with a 1000 taxi's so as to drive down COST

You couldn't make it up. Anything, rather than give qualified drivers the opportunity to compete in their own trade with their own taxi.

Can you just imagine Dougie asking for a reduction in his council tax, or cash off at the pumps, or a cheaper service or asking the council to reduce licence fees rather than hiking them as they do.

What will it take for Dougie to understand that it is only by walking away does the incentive to reduce prices happen.

If he wants a reduction, only market forces can deliver it.

The alternative is the restriction of the status quo, which will resist cutting drivers a fair deal to the very end.

To paraphrase Eddie Turnbull speaking of the recently deceased Easter Road legend Alan Gordon - Aw Dougie's brains are in his maister's heid
