Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint in Welwyn Garden City

A taxi driver was threatened with a knife and robbed by a man he had picked up near a shopping centre in Hertfordshire.

The man asked to be taken to the Oak Tavern, Moors Walk, Welwyn Garden City, from near the Howards Centre in the town in the early hours of Sunday.

On arrival, the passenger threatened the driver with a weapon, believed to be a small knife, and stole cash.

The driver received "superficial" injuries to his face, police said.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and discharged.

The passenger is described as black, in his late teens or early 20s, and about 5ft 9in (1.75m).

He wearing brown trousers, dark brown woolly gloves and a black 'cowboy hat'.

Pc Craig Whitaker, said: "The hat he was wearing was very distinctive and I imagine he would have stood out on the evening the incident took place."
