Now we've all seen it happen, and I suspect we have all done it, although not as bad as the plank from Mansfield who sent a text message whilst engaged with a customer. :shock: However it's now illegal.

But I wonder exactly how many of us will take any notice? :wink:

But well done to the powers that be, allowing us to keep our two-way radios. But I have no-doubt there are some out there in the HC trade who would have much preferred the end of the two-way radio.

Because that could have led to the end of LPH, and we wouldn't have wanted that, would we. :(

no it wouldnt, the end of the radio is nigh, beccause technology dictates that, we got radios to keep up with competition and they retire for the same reason

but I hope the radio will not be misused to cause grave concerns, the plank in Mansfield nearly killed the best new technology goiing certainly his defenders did not help.

we are very poor defending ourselves.

Well it was reported a year or two ago that police didn't want the rules because they wouldn't be able to enforce it.

It'll probably be like all the other rules of the road, which are routinely broken, and the police occassionaly hand out a ticket to fill some quota or suchlike.

But you never know - people might not flaunt it to the extent they do now, so it might look as if a lot more people are behaving.

The best thing about the new regulations coming into force on the 1st December is that 2 way radios can still be used....otherwise as a Radio Controller I could have been out of a job..lol

So you can only use hands free mobile phones whilst driving. This enables you to have both hands available to controle the car? Does this now make it illegle for people who have lost an arm to drive a vehicle. If not, why not? I myself drive an automatic car ideal for any one who has lost an arm or who needs to answer the damm phone. If I can be fined for using the phone in my automatic car (because I am driving using one hand) then all 1 armed drivers beware. I feel european beurocratic legislation sneeking up on us all. say no. We the people are suposed to tell the govt. what we want, not them forceing us to conform to some idiotic horsesh*t idea by someone with too much time on their hands.

the thing is if you have only one arm, that is the state in which you pass your test.

my quibble with using the mobile phones whilst driving isnt the loss of an arm but rather the brain as concentration lapses.

it is a fact prooven that a significant number of accidents occured whilst these phones are being used, we cannot get away from that fact.

The clear scientific evidence shows that using the phone (hand held or hands free) is the dangerous part.

That is why two of my major customers insist that the driver has his phone turned off throughout the journey. The drivers are now believing the evidence and many are switching their phones off whenever they have a passenger.

Now we need a decent computer based text message service.

How many times have we seen idiots like Mr Hun do stupid things whilst driving holding a phone to their ear. Lorry drivers are the ones who really get me p155ed off. Surely a haulage company can justify a hands free kit?

As I have stated before, we have all done it, but I believe it to be dangerous.

Perhaps not in a straight line, but when you are going around a corner it's stupid. I see it, you see it, all the time.

Plain stupid, and in time we will wonder how on earth it was allowed to happen for so long, without someone doing something about it.

Dear dusty,yes indeed a one armed person may drive an unmodified car if it has an automatic gear box.
All you other a%*^h*les are missing my point govt. legislation on what citizens of this country can and cannot do is getting to out of control proportions. council regulations are bad enough:- example fire extinguishers, first aid kits in all licenced cabs, I told the licencing commitee of my council that I will not under any circomstances attempt to put out a fire with said device nor will I give first aid to anyone except familly (too bloody dangerous). Stop the tyranny now tell the govt. F*^K OFF WE ARE THE PEOPLE> WE WILL HAVE OUR SAY.

Perhaps I may have missed the point, which perhaps make me an a*******, but in my opinion there is a hell of a lot of difference between legislating on mobile phone usage, and petty council conditions on fire extinguishers and first aid boxes.

Mobile phone use whilst driving is dangerous, you don't need to have pages of stats to show it, you just have to look at those driving to see how dangerous it is.

As you say fire extinguishers and first aid boxes are a pain in the bum, and a complete waste of time. How many of us are trained first aiders or firemen? How much will it cost us, if we mess up while using these things untrained?

It is a nightmare, but driving whilst not in control of a motor is worse, and I'm glad something is being done about, even though the penalties are less than the average parking ticket. :?
