Woman kills 3 taxi drivers within 3 months TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A jobless woman accused of drugging, robbing and killing at least three taxi drivers over a three-month period in the greater Taipei area was arrested yesterday morning by Taipei County police. Jiang Yun-ching (江雲卿), 39, is charged with drugging and robbing a taxi driver surnamed Wang on Feb. 28. She then left his dead body in a motel bathtub in Hsinchuang City, Taipei County. She is also the suspect in two similar taxi driver deaths which occurred on Jan. 13 in Taoyuan County. Police have also linked Jiang to at least 10 robberies under similar circumstances. Jiang's modus operandi involved randomly hailing cabs around Taipei, Taoyuan and Keelung and inviting the taxi drivers to party with her. The destination was usually a karaoke bar followed by a motel, where the two would engage in sexual intercourse. In their post-coital haze, Jiang would spike the drivers' drinks with grounded sleeping pills she had prepared in advance and rob them while they lay unconscious. Three taxi drivers had allegedly met their deaths after encounters with Jiang. Arrested yesterday at 11 a.m. at her home on Bade road in Shulin City, Jiang admitted to committing the robberies but denied killing anyone. Currently unemployed, Jiang said that money was her main motivation. Investigators revealed that the suspect had acquired over NT$100,000 from her criminal activities. Police also found five mobile phones in her home, likely belonging to her victims. Details of the death of Wang, 59, are unclear. The cab driver was found in a bathtub on Feb. 28, the day of the Chinese Lantern Festival, unconscious in a sea of scorching water. Police suspect that Jiang filled the bathtub with hot water and urged Wang to get in after he experienced a burst of consciousness. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined as the case is pending investigation. The police also linked Jiang to two similar cases on Jan. 13 in Taoyuan County, where the bodies of two cab drivers were discovered. The unassuming and bespectacled Jiang, who stands at a mere 150 centimeters, was caught on motel surveillance cameras cheerily getting onto an escalator with the victim. Later, she was seen fleeing the scene alone, wearing a health mask. Using printed images from the footage, Taipei County police were able to trace Jiang's whereabouts by questioning the vendor of the local lottery stand, at which Jiang is a regular customer. She had purchased a number of NT$300 tickets the morning before her arrest. According to police reports, Jiang would use at least 10 sleeping pills per victim, foisting the grounded pills in beer and water. Investigators theorize that overdose deaths resulting from the medication were likely, given the circumstances. Source; http://www.chinapost.com.tw/taiwan/loca ... -kills.htm |
