Carlisle cab driver fined for smoking in his taxi


Smoking a cigarette in his own cab has cost a Carlisle taxi driver almost £300.

Paul Dalgleish, who drives a hackney carriage, was spotted smoking by an enforcement officer as he drove along Victoria Viaduct last October.

There were no passengers on board but the health act 2006 rules still apply as his taxi is a designated public place.

Dalgleish, 49, of Warwick Square, had received two previous written warnings about smoking in his cab.

He did not pay a £50 fixed penalty notice issued after the latest offence and the matter was brought before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Dalgleish did not attend and the case was proven in his absence.

He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £75 costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.

I'll have you know.....and Chilton pointed this out, not me, although I am doing now, I dont use capital letters at the start of my addy.

Some would say this was a mere oversight when I first joined TDO........I prefer chiltons statement, I am extremely humble, and have much to be humble about!

Most of them don't need a pot they just need a back wheel. I of course require a pot of which I have.... anyway enough of humble and pots I think the driver got what he deserves considering his total ignorance of the law and the later events

I'm sorry but as you will be aware, you are fully entitled to urinate on the rear wheel of your carriage, admittedly in the middle of Birkenhead maybe a bit of a problem, although I am confident in your accuracy and lack of need of a pot.
