Cab driver seriously injured in Gatwick crash

Thursday, April 15, 2010, 17:07

A man has been left with serious injuries after a two car collision at Gatwick Airport.

The man, a taxi driver in his 70s, has been rushed to East Surrey Hospital with serious leg injuries after the crash, which happened just after noon today (Thursday).

It is believed he was helping two passengers into the terminal by foot when another car crashed into his stationary Citroen Picasso private hire taxi at the upper departure level at North Terminal of Gatwick Airport.

The two passengers and the driver of the other vehicle, a Honda Jazz, were unhurt.

The taxi driver’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The road was closed by police while the collision was investigated, however because all flights have been cancelled due to the volcanic ash warning, there was little disruption.

Police have said they would like to speak to anyone with information, in particular the occupants of a silver car which is understood to have been stationary nearby at the time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police via 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 681 of 15 April.
