We've all read the media reports of the attacks on taxi drivers, i'm looking for something different. Only the very severe make the press but what about those tiny incidents that make you aware of just how unsafe we all are in this industry. Your stories will help me secure the Taxi Industry for everyone. I need to be able to prove just how important CCTV and other security measures are in our industry. So please, what has happened to you whilst at work/or to a colleague that has scared you/made you aware just how unsafe we are? |

Spend a few hours googling and you will have enough sad news to fill a book or three. Basically there are too many scumbags out of prison that should be in prison. |

I have spent many hours googling and they are all media reported incidents. What i'm looking for is the little incidents that on their own would not make a newspaper. Were talking about the runners, drunken flirty women, threats, missiles and general scumbags that affect our daily working lives. Also if anyone has CCTV in their vehicle please tell me the difference it has made, and why you believe it should be used more. |

ON Friday the 23rd of jan i was waiting for a fare at Dundee station ,i had been working for about 9 hours and was having a real pour night when a young lad approached me and ask if i could take him to Edinburgh he had mist the last train. He accepted my Quote but said his mother would pay at other end.As i was having a pour night i broke the golden rule never go out of town till you get the money up front.When we arrived at Edinburgh the young lad said i will phone my mother to come down to pay you.As we sat for a few minutes things began to feel not right.Next 2 hooded youths came out from block of flats,they did not come directly to cab but next thing i see another youth approach from other side at this time i floor it but as i was in a car park had to go out the way the youths were one youth stood in front of exit with shopping trolley over his head.I made a split decision i was not going to stop and drove straight at him he jumped out of the way but throw trolley at taxi causing some damage.The young lad was still in the back,i phoned police and they arrested youth in the back of car as they said he had set me up.They told me his mother did not stay there. |

I make a point of avoiding any trouble regardless of how attractive the fare may seem..... Most incidents only occur when desperate drivers do not use gut feeling and common sense..... If it feels iffy and the people that approach you you don't feel comfortable with, don't do it!! It works for me. CCTV is only useful inside the cab where it usually kicks off, so avoiding situations is the best precaution...... Generally cab drivers are their own worst enemies when it comes to things of this nature. Working unsociable hours, especially night times are more fret with potential danger but could be avoided by listening to one's gut instincts.....  
I suspect that you want to get into cctv industry making some extra cash, am I right? |

CCTV makes a massive difference IMO, although clearly it's hard to quantify. By I'm certain that some scumbags have paid and not run solely due to them being caught on CCTV. The little TV screens are a must.

Bang on. Your gut instinct is one of the best tools you have. Don't ignore it... Your life is worth more than a good fare, no matter how skint you are. |

had a schoolkid puke 2 weeks ago smell just about gone why did i decide a £40 valet was too much then spent £80 on a vax wet'n'dry and £20 on bits to use with it bio brisk did it tho! |

On a lighter side I convinced a punter once that the rain/light detector on a Pug 406 screen was a camera and he paid up

i have stickers in my car saying the punters may be being filmed on cctv altho i havent actually got a camera yet! most people think that my little red lights on my skoda's interior light is a camera.
as a lady night driver & the ranks getting ever more dangerous, it acts as a deterrent! |
