I think the best quote is, Holder, of Station View, Abbeytown, added: “I used to hear voices on the taxi radio". What a novel idea.

seriously though, the guy should have had his licensed revoked a long while before the incidents. regards Captain cab |

Although a frightning experience for the four women involved it does seem to me that the guy deserves our compassion and sympathy, remember it's an illness, and just like any other illness he had no control over it, he will now probably suffer the social drift (downwards) that comes with this condition if it is not handled properly. Why is he having to face a trial in a court of law anyhow, surely the last thing he should have to face as it's a condition that is often brought on or made worse by stress. http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Book ... npublished Anyway I hope that he gets the treatment and help he deserves.

I think I've stated in earlier posts that I dont think the guy should have held a license. I cant find the report on the local papers website yet, but I heard he's been found not guilty for reasons of the illness. He never spoke to anyone for a year, when he needed to answer a question he would write the answer on a bit of paper and pass it on. Hopefully the guy will get some help now regards Captain cab |

Interesting comments in the press article though, it raises some interesting points. How can the two "experts" agree that Mr holder was indeed suffering from schizophrenia but say he was "fit to plead" this to me again exposes the duplicitous nature of the way that the authorities deal with the disabled and the mentally ill. In other words how can someone who has a disordered mind and is declared unfit to drive a taxi/ph vehicle be fit enough to plead one way or the other. Why could they not have used the diversion from the criminal justice system route, there are clear guidelines there for those that understand them. Everyone seems to be in agreement that they should have brought Mr Holder before the court to answer the serious complaints made by the four women, but it also states that there was nothing sexual or sinister behind his behaviour. In proceeding in this manner did the authorities breach Mr Holders right to a fair trial, remember they knew he was schizophrenic, what purpose did this serve, they say it was in the public interest, and thats fair enough, but was it in Mr Holders interest to have the world made aware of his illness, just to add to his problems. Interestingly if we were to breach the DDA we would be penalised severely, and yet when it's one of our own who could have benefited from it, he is still penalised, I await the new Mental Health Act with trepidation! P.S had to laugh at the newspaper contacting someone who does not speak to anyone for a comment only to be told, guess what, that he does not speak to anyone

I think the problem is trying to assess someone's mental state. Are LOs up to that? I bet it's not on the medical check list.
Perhaps new drivers should take one of those written tests that large employer give to job applicants, to assess their personalities. But would there be anyone left out here?

From what I can gether, he's behaved in a really strange manner for at least 12 months. During this time no-one has questioned it, including me, however as a kind of mitigation I didnt know how bad he had become (by bad I mean socially excluded himself). I think the CPS come out of thing minging as do the LA. hopefully he'll get the help he needs. regards Captain cab |
