A NEWPORT taxi firm was ordered to stop working after it was found to be operating without planning permission, a city council report says.

Servu Taxis in Allt-yr-yn was issued an enforcement notice by Newport City Council for not having planning permission for the change of use from a retail unit to a taxi office.

The notice orders for the unit on Pentonville to stop working as a taxi office and for the radio aerial to be removed from the building.

The report by the council said the change into a taxi office within the last ten years is unacceptable and said the increase in cars is likely to reduce the visibility of pedestrians and vehicles.

Environmental Health had concerns about the possible noise created by the movement of cars in the late evening and early hours of the morning, the running of engines, minor repairs to cars, the beeping of horns, slamming of doors and noise from radios and conversations between drivers.

The council said attempts to resolve the matter informally have been unsuccessful.

As far as I know I am one of only two local taxi firms who do have planning permission the councils tend to only take an interest when there are complaints
