Sexual approaches by minicab drivers on passengers have been banned in a police bid to protect vulnerable customers. Any form of sexual contact, which could include anything from suggestive flirting to consensual activity in the back seat, could cost them their licence under a new condition imposed on private hire drivers. The move, suggested by Thames Valley Police to stop rogue drivers using the consent defence in sex attack cases, was approved by the Royal Borough Council’s licensing panel on Wednesday night last week. The condition states that drivers may not ‘initiate any dialogue of a sexual nature with a passenger’ or become ‘involved sexually’ or ‘have sexual contact’ with any customers in a licensed vehicle – even if they consented. It will not apply to hackney carriage cabbies who are regulated by bylaws set by the Secretary of State and can be prosecuted if they fail to act in ‘a civil and orderly manner’. I have to admit to flirting and touching up a female passenger today as payment in cash was unlikely, she was consenting and it was wonderful odd seeing as id stopped her houskeeping again and her mother had warned her not to marry me - but she still did |
