THE average wait for a taxi at the city's official stances is five minutes, according to a survey. The city council carried out the monitoring of nine of its taxi stances in April and May. It studied the number of taxis and passengers, arrival and departure times, waiting time and whether the customer walked away without getting a taxi. The report found that the average wait for the 137 passengers monitored was four minutes and 57 seconds, while 26 of the potential passengers walked away without getting a taxi. The longest amount of time any passenger had to wait was 10 minutes and 10 seconds. It was also confirmed by the city council that it has received two complaints from members of the public reporting difficulties obtaining taxis. In a report on demand, the council's taxi licensing officer Peter Lang said that the findings suggest that there is "no significant unmet demand for taxis" in Edinburgh http://news.scotsman.com/news/Passenger ... 6465897.jp |

In fact the last Halcrow SUD survey in Edinburgh found SUD, which meant the council had to issue 30 new plates, with an average passenger wait of 1.27 minutes. http://cpol.edinburgh.gov.uk/getdoc_ext ... cId=130199 Quite how a waiting time four times that leads to a conclusion that no SUD is apparent is strange, indeed very strange.

We've moved on from demand surveys LongshanksED, or haven't you heard? The next application we make will be fought solely on Human Rights, and having unfettered access to the tools of our trade. The restriction of licence plates is based on inequality, discrimination and the exploitation of qualified drivers. The CGSA, is not being read in accordance with EU legislation. That much you can be sure of. Oh and LongshanksED, you are aware that the down turn in the economy, expected in 2011 and 2012 is going to break the back of most owners out there struggling to keep their heads above water. When, disposable income dries up; there will be very little discretionary spending for taxi journeys. This year is going to look like a picnic in comparison to next year and the year after. The taxi trade is well and truly fecked. "Demand Surveys"

Well done Sussex, this might be worth looking at, a contradiction in terms from our council one might say.  The average waiting time has then increased. How many plates this time, 60?
