I know the rules may vary between districts, but whats the general standing on Drivers and diabetes ? I know that York council were ok bout it as long as you were taking insulin in tablet form ! But once it became necessary to inject the insulin, your Hackney/PH drivers licence was withdrawn. Is it still the same case or have rules changed ? |

tell the GP/Diabetic nurse you will lose your badge and request a trial on Byetta instead of Insulin, its acceptable to LAs... 2 jabs, 1 and hour before brekky and 1 an hour before tea http://www.byetta.com/Pages/index.aspx |

We have drivers here with type 1 diabetes (insulin dependant) who have got licenses. Our la seem ok as long as the sugar levels are under control. I do however know of one driver who lost his badge due to poor control. We have no problems here with type 2 diabetes (tablet control or Byetta and tablets [me]) |

Someone recently explained the full inns and outs of this over chips and a pie, but I have forgotten all about it. 
I think one type will never effect your driving ability, and the other can. |

If you inject a little bit more than you should or you don't eat soon after injecting, your blood sugar level can go to low and you slip into a diabetic coma. Obviously this is not good if you are driving at the time and particulaly bad if you are carrying passengers. Diabetics who are on tablets are far less inclined to suffer from low sugar levels so they are unlikly to slip into a diabetic coma. If your sugar level gets to high it can make you a bit sleepy and damage your kidneys and liver in the long term. |

GD, the problem is they keep lowering the desired levels, 10 years ago under 10 was fine, now its 7, at 5 id slip into a coma! |

In Brum tablets are OK, but if you are on insulin, then your driver licence is suspended until you can prove your diabetes is under control. |

which is a bit daft considering diabetes is the biggest undercover condition with 1000's not knowing they have it and possibly having poor control the problem is LOW sugar levels whereas many have HIGH levels which wont cause diabetic comas GET CHECKED its just a little p.rick go on, say it............................... |
