Taxi driver had Taser in vehicle

A taxi driver had a Taser gun in his vehicle while parked at Norwich train station, a court heard yesterday.

Peter Bromley, 57, appeared at Norwich Crown Court and admitted a charge of possessing a prohibited weapon. Chris Youell, prosecuting, said police found Bromley, of High Street, Loddon, with a taser gun and an extendable baton when they searched his taxi at the railway station on March 20.

He said Bromley told them the weapons had been left in his taxi and he had kept the Taser to use its torch function.

Judge Alasdair Darroch told Bromley that if he had used the weapons he would have been going to prison.

He accepted that Bromley had found the items and had very unwisely kept them.

Judge Darroch gave Bromley a four month prison sentence suspended for one year. He ordered him to do 120 hours' unpaid work and to pay £150 costs.

Plonker or what you cannot carry an offensive weapon there used to be one round our way that had a large wrench down the side of his seat then one saturday night a couple of drunken lads started arguing over the fare the wrench was produced the two lads overpowered the driver took the wrench off him and whacked in the ribs with it then scarpered !

Some idiots have to learn the hard way the best weapon a cabbie has is his brain far more useful for getting out of trouble !

A few years back one of the Falkirk drivers was pulled on an all agency spot check. He was found to be in possession of a priest (no, not a member of the clergy, a lead filled mini truncheon, used to stun fish).

Thing is he's 6' 13"* (well to a dwarf like me he is) tall, weighs in excess of 20 stone, is a loud mouthed ex rugby player, and was driving an E7 with a partition, at the time. His story was he found it in the back the previous night and forgot to bin it, or hand it in to the police. (The story wasn't bought either by the police or later by the other taxi drivers that knew him).

He was subsequently charged and was fined £300. He had already left the trade, by choice (basically, he jumped before being pushed), by the time the case came to court.

Just goes to show what effect the stress of this job leads some people to consider having to hand, "just in case", me, I'll stick to my tongue (talk my way out of trouble), and if that fails, my feet (run like [edited by admin])

* he's actually 6' 7", lol
