Birmingham cab driver told he put passengers' lives in danger with fake plates

A BIRMINGHAM cab driver has been told he put passengers’ lives in danger by using fake licences.

Mohammed Miah, 22, of Wattville Avenue, Handsworth, escaped jail despite admitting making two false private hire licences at the city’s crown court.

Miah, who worked for Royal Cars, was arrested last November and police discovered his private hire driver’s licence had expired.

The forged documents were found and journey records revealed Miah had duped his bosses at the cab company to obtain regular work.

Further checks with the DVLA showed Miah’s driving licence had been revoked because it was not surrendered for the addition of penalty points.

Miah pleaded guilty to seven offences under the Fraud Act and Forgery and Counterfeiting Act and three more of driving without insurance.

Recorder Justin Wigoder told Miah: “If you had an accident while driving, those passengers would have had no recourse at all against you.”

The judge handed Miah a 30-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, to run concurrently.

He also gave him six penalty points, a six-month driving ban and ordered him to perform 80 hours’ unpaid work.

Simon Mortimer, prosecuting said: “Each passenger believed they were being driven by a licensed and insured driver.”

Ben Williams, defending, said Miah had only ever worked as a cabbie.

FFS what's the court thinking of? I mean letting him use their printer to make them in the first place
