This is in the General section as well but as I am based in Scotland thought it wise to put it here also - again all help welcomed gratefully! Hi All, after reading a lot of older posts finally time to contribute, well ask for your help initially with some questions around becoming a driver. I want to become a taxi driver - possibly Hackney or PH driver depending on the answers given below - any help insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. I would initially hope to rent or "pay settle" (if thats even the correct phrase) on a vehicle while I make a firm commitment to the trade. Bit about me - I am male 31yrs old been driving for 14yrs with only 3 points on my license which will remain there for another year before dropping off. No other convictions or skeletons in my closet. Presentable - polite - well mannered and actually enjoy driving (that may change if I do it for a living I hear you say)
I am based in Scotland and the way I see it is that I can apply to 3 seperate local authorities for a PH licence. (if this is allowed) North Lanarkshire Council - This is where I live South Lanarkshire Council - This is where I used to live and have a good knowledge of the area Glasgow City Council - I think the work may be more plentiful hear being the big city. My first question is can I apply to all 3 LA's or is there a restriction? If so would you recommend Glasgow from a financial point of view? Can I apply for a PH and a Hackney badge? (I understand some form of "Knowledge" test would have to be taken if I applied for a Hackney licence in Glasgow but there seems to be a good company which provides training and help and will let you rent a Hack once licensed. I would eventually intend to buy my own vehicle PH or Hack as things progressed. Last question (I appreciate may be controversial) is where do you guys feel the money is best to be made? Hack in the city or PH in the city our surrounding areas? I am no stranger to hard graft and long hours so this isnt an issue - I would just appreciate as much knowledge as possible from you experts so I can make an informed decision and not waste weeks barking up the wrong tree. I have bolded up my questions incase they get lost in between my rambling. Thanks a million for any help at all - all opinions greatly received. |

tbh theres still a good living to be made( i drive PH in Glasgow, as everyone will tell you its down to putting the right/number of hours in spoken to a few hack drivers this week and some of teh GCC area boys are struggling but the trades the same all over. mate of mine in south lanny is pretty much in the same boat as me work and takings wise (he's PH too) basically to put it bluntly, if you want to work long/unsociable hours you will make great money. if you want to work mon-fri 9-5 your better doing security or similar |
