Cabbie may lose use of hand in late-night taxi stabbing horror

A CITY taxi driver may lose the use of his hand after he was subjected to a late-night frenzied knife attack by a passenger. The bloodied victim was stabbed repeatedly and ordered to drive at knifepoint through the streets.

The 33-year-old was then dumped out of his private hire cab and left badly wounded in the road. His attacker sped off in the stolen cab before smashing into a crash barrier and abandoning the car.

The cabbie, from Toxteth, picked up a fare in Colville Street, Wavertree, just after midnight on Saturday. The two men asked to go to Hale Road, Widnes, where one of them got out.

The second man asked to be taken to Higher Road, also Widnes. But when they arrived and the cabbie checked the fare he was attacked with a 15cm-long knife.

The victim was knifed repeatedly in his left hand. But despite bleeding heavily he was ordered to drive to Boundary Lane. There the cabbie was told to get out. His attacker drove off before crashing in Bankfield Road and fleeing the scene.

Detectives are baffled about the motive as there was no attempt to steal the cabbie’s takings from his Friday night fares. He underwent reconstructive surgery yesterday after several nerves and arteries were severed by the ferocity of the attack. He will not drive for months and may lose the use of his hand.

Police returned to the address in Colville Street where they arrested a woman, 20, and two men, 32 and 26, on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. The attacker was described as around 27 years old, skinny with short black hair. He was wearing a black jacket and jeans and spoke with a Liverpool accent.

The victim is recovering in Whiston Hospital. Anyone with information should call police on 0845 458 0000.

What's the bet that if this person is ever caught the mitigating circumstances will involve drugs or alcohol  Lets hope he left lots of nice finger prints on the steering wheel. I hope the driver makes a full recovery, but, one has to wonder if his ph days are numbered.
