Taxi driver who hit referee loses licence

A CARLISLE taxi driver convicted of beating up an amateur football referee has lost his cabbie’s licence.

Peter Jackson, 49, of Farlam Drive, Durranhill, was given a 150-hour community service order last year for punching referee Steve Pattison after a Sunday league game.

Yesterday Carlisle City Council’s licensing panel ignored his plea for leniency and revoked his taxi licence.

Chairman David Morton said: “The trust this panel placed in you has been broken by this conviction. We have serious concerns about your ability to contain your temper when challenged and that you could be a risk to the public.”

Mr Jackson said he was sticking up for his son, also called Peter, who was jailed for nine months for his part in the attack on Carlisle United director Mr Pattison. Mr Jackson said he was ashamed of the incident and produced character references.

The last two times Carlisle has been mentioned on this site it seems to be a result of the LA licensing people who should never have been licensed in the first place.

I understand that the guy in question worked for the post office for a considerable number of years. I also understand that one day a colleague at the post office said something to him about Celtic being beaten one weekend. Apparently the guy who mentioned the Celtic result ended up in casualty. This guy was basically given an offer he couldnt refuse, either resign, or the police are called in. He resigned an managed to obtain a taxi license.

The offence in question took place almost 12 months ago, sentencing was about 6 months ago, the LA overlooked it and overlooked it and eventually decided to take action.

I understand the actual offence was basically this guy and his son kicking the crap out of a football referee during the game. It was a totally horrific incident. But again even the Cumberland FA had ignored this particular team. If you can remember the film 'Slap Shot' this would give you some idea what this team were like.
