Woman, 37, raped by 'taxi driver' The woman got into the taxi on Canal Street A woman was allegedly raped after getting into what she thought was a taxi after a night out in Manchester. Police say the man pushed his way into the 37-year-old's home, raped her and then stole from her handbag. The man, who had also taken one of the woman's male colleagues home, took advantage of the fact that she was drunk, said Greater Manchester Police. The pair got into the burgundy-coloured car on the bridge on Canal Street, in the early hours of Sunday. The driver dropped the woman's colleague in Burnage, before driving the woman home to Heaton Mersey. People may be quick to judge this woman but we are all human and she has done absolutely nothing wrong Det Insp Tony Creely He got into her house and raped her. Det Insp Tony Creely, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This woman had enjoyed a night out with work colleagues and, by her own admission, had had quite a few drinks. "It is my belief that he took advantage of the fact that she was quite drunk and raped her. "People may be quick to judge this woman but we are all human and this woman has done absolutely nothing wrong - she is not to blame for what happened. "It is the driver of the car who has totally destroyed this woman's life, it is him who has broken the law and it is him who has totally taken advantage of the situation." The car was a burgundy or deep red colour and may have been a Toyota or Nissan. Police are investigating whether it was a registered private hire vehicle. The driver was Asian, aged between 28 and 35, slim to medium build with thick collar-length black hair. He spoke with a Manchester accent. |

Captain cab The rest of the piece is just as bad, the first sentence states that "The woman got into the taxi on Canal Street" The second sentence states that she was "getting into what she thought was a taxi" Well it either is or it is not. |

This is quite standard in Manchester courtesy of ''Manchester Evening News''. For quite some time they have had bad feelings with the Hackney Carriage trade in Manchester. So, they will publish any tripe which gives cabs/drivers a bad name. They will always misquote ''Taxis'' even though they well know the matter has nothing to do with taxis but may be a P/H matter. The best one was when Checker cars came to Manchester Airport, it was front page news. Most sensible Cab Drivers have long stopped reading this tripe excuse for a newspaper. |
