A BARROW taxi driver fears he helped killer Gordon Park load his wife’s body into the boot of his car. John MacMillan, 55, of Provincial Street, Barrow, said he had a flashback to the chilling incident while watching a television programme about Soham murderer Ian Huntley in 2003. Mr MacMillan told the Evening Mail about the night in July 1976 when he took his dog for a walk just after 10pm. He said: “I walked the dog up to Leece village, something I had done many times. “I was walking around the tarn and saw a man dragging a parcel from what looked like an oldish outhouse. “His estate or boot to his car was already open. I said to him ‘I’ll give you a hand’. “He abruptly answered ‘No, no, no’. “I told him not to be so daft and bent straight down and struggled to lift what was an extremely heavy parcel, which was taped up with black polythene into the boot.” As he lifted it he felt something move which caused him to hesitate for a second because he thought he was going to drop it. Mr MacMillan said: “I said to the man ‘What have you got in here? A body?’ He fired back sarcastically ‘It’s a carpet if you want to know. I had an accident and it got soaked’. “I left him to it.” After about five minutes he saw the car leave the village. |
