Taxi row leaves man without part of ear
28 February 2005 23:01
A man lost half his left ear and suffered serious head injuries after a row flared up in a taxi queue in Norwich city centre.
The victim – in his 30s – has been discharged from hospital, but he will need plastic surgery.
Police say he was standing at the rank in Gaol Hill at about 12.50am on Sunday when an argument began about who was next in line.
About 10 men attacked him, punching and kicking him and he was taken to the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.
Kristina Raines, spokeswoman for Norwich police, said: "This is a busy area of the city on a Saturday night and detectives are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident.
"They are particularly interested in talking to any hackney cab drivers who may have information about it.
"Violent assaults of this nature are extremely rare in the city centre, but this was a very nasty wounding which has left the victim in need of further treatment."
