Taxi-drivers face court FIVE taxi-drivers are being prosecuted following a recent operation to ensure the safety of passengers. A joint operation involving Merseyside Police's Roads Policing team and City Council licensing enforcement officers, took place over a week-end to ensure taxi drivers and their vehicles complied with the relevant legislation and licence conditions. One unlicensed driver has been reported for licensing, operators and insurance offences. Two private hire drivers for Liverpool will be prosecuted for plying for hire with associated insurance offences. Three private hire drivers from Knowsley will be prosecuted for plying for hire and insurance offence- with one facing a further charge in relation to an operator's offence. Five vehicles were seized by the police and impounded. Councillor Christine Banks, Chair of the City Council's Licensing Committee, said: "This operation was to ensure the safety of passengers. Private hire vehicles can only carry passengers if they have booked them in advance. If they have not done so they are not insured to pick up passengers. "As we move towards Christmas there is a risk that people going out for a night will use any type of taxi if they are prepared to carry them. "However, they can be placing themselves in danger if they do so. Passengers should always ensure they only use properly licensed taxis. They must have a really cr@p operators there we were warned they were out doing their bit. Personally it doesn't bother me if they are out I've nothing to worry about because I am a good girl and don't do anything wrong

Usually the case round here all the dodgy cars and drivers stay off work for 24 hours trouble is as soon as any operation like that starts which is about once every 10 years word gets round in 15 minutes max the only positive the ranks are empty and plenty of work to be had just wish they would all take eid off instead of about half of them ! |

the only positive the ranks are empty and plenty of work to be had just wish they would all take eid off instead of about half of them ! thats right, Thurday the operation started in York, it seemed as if most drivers stayed away when the news was given out, "taxi enforcement on the prowl" a few was given fix penalties for number plate letter spacing, worn tyres etc etc, one with binding front brake pads was hauled in on an 08 plate, one PH was pulled whilst he was not working, just doing some shopping with the wife and was eventualy let go without an inspection, after being stopped the stupid excuse by police when being pulled at night, we have been following you and have noticed that your rear tyres look below the limit, thats odd said the driver, I just got 4 new tyres on last week because you didnt have your documents with you when you was pulled you was sent to the ramps for an inspection, surely the Council have all this deatails on the computor, even the police car could have pressed a button and brought up DVLA details, even so one Hac was pulled without an MOTC, even though the owner of the plate owns a garage |
