Post subject:  Police hunting driver after black cab assault

POLICE are hunting a taxi driver who sexually assaulted a passenger on Saturday (December 11).

The incident happened after the woman, who was in her late teens, got into the traditional black Hackney Carriage cab near the Dog and Pheasant Pub, Worcester Road, at around 2.15am.

The driver told the woman to get in the front and it was then, on the journey, that he sexually assaulted her.

The man was Asian, in his mid 40s, 6ft tall and of heavy build. He had a very chubby face that was clean shaven and thick black hair which was short around the sides and a bit spiky on top. He was wearing a long-sleeved cream shirt, dark trousers and dark shoes and had a Birmingham/Asian accent.

It is believed the cab's registration plate began with the letters DY.

Appealing for witnesses and any information, PC Stacey Keogh of West Mercia Police said the incident could have been a lot more serious.

“It is really unusual for there to be black cabs in Bromsgrove, so we believe the driver must have been in the town centre dropping somebody off – possibly someone who had been for a night out in either Birmingham or Worcester.

“Police are looking for anybody who remembers the taxi, but specifically for people who got the taxi to Bromsgrove."

Anyone with any information should call West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A leaflet has been produced by West Mercia Police in conjunction with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust called 'Keeping Safe Over the Festive Season'. It features safety tips on getting home by cab or public transport.

It's foregone conclusion that he must have done it then? Having said that the word 'allegedly' is missing from the report so perhaps you're right

I've never understood why any lone female would sit in the front of vehicle with a complete stranger or why any taxi driver would ask a lone female to sit in the front, neither situation bodes well if accusations are made

That narrows it down then.

Now that we're speaking the same language, obviously the answer is in the affirmative.

I believe Section 52 was invoked.

This is a Brum Airport driver, allegedly known as Waqar Khan. News of this case has only just surfaced.

The Brum licensing office have kept this very quiet, but the guy has not been seen for months, so we have all assumed that section 52 was invoked.

It better have been!!

The story which I only heard today goes like this;

He is currently remanded in Winson Green prison [and we are hoping he's someone's bitch by now] awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of whatever he was charged with.

He apparently pleaded not guilty and it went to Magistrates' Court in February where the case was sent for trial at Crown Court.

The case was heard in the last week or so, we believe at Worcester Crown Court.

The story goes that he continued to plead not guilty, despite his own solicitor advising him that the evidence against him was overwhelming and he should change his plea.

He apparently changed his plea to guilty, right at the end when the jury were already deliberating and had already decided the guilty verdict but had not re-entered the court room to give their verdict.

The story also goes that he arranged for two false alibis, who apparently made statements that he was with them at the time of the incident. The alibis were warned as to their stories, so did not turn up at court.

Apparently Waqar Khan [Brum licensed cab and driver] took a job from Brum Airport to Bromsgrove. After dropping he was returning when he spotted the unfortunate young lady and touted her but she declined and crossed the road.

He apparently drove on, turned round and after touting and accosting her again in a preditory manner she eventually got in his cab into the front seat.

How is all this known?

It was all caught on street CCTV and they had him bang to rights!!

And the story goes that his plate and badge was taken off him almost immediately by Brum Licensing.

He won't be missed, not at all!!

But this story has not appeared in any local papers and I am astonished that it's still not been reported.
