.... and where's the work gonna come from to service them ....?

.... and how much will existing radio dues be reduced to compensate for the more widely spread work ....?

.... and which A to Z of sound business practice was used to unearth this little gem ....?

.... or how much did the pet consultant returning to the "well" get of members' cash to come up with this "pinnacle" of business strategy  ....?

.... or is this just a committee ruse to replace diminishing income with more of the same ....?

.... and, given that City cabs voted NOT to merge already, what's gonna make this apparently desperate ruse more attractive ....?

Now don't all rush at once. But who out there in the ether is prepared to pay a fee to CRT for less work?

Now let's think about this: there seems to be plenty work for £300-£350 rentals or 50K plate values, although, artificial shortage premiums have decreased, but no work for qualified drivers operating their own taxi.

I say, drivers should have the opportunity to own or drive and if owners can't survive without their slaves, then tough.

A level playing field, who can argue with that? :D

The CRT committee knows their coats, are on a shoogly hook. It's game over if they can't expand CRT, faster than its losses. The job totals are falling. Its members are getting nervous and the committee is desperately trying to show leadership. “I know, let's expand the company by another 176 mobiles, think of the radio fees? That way we can discount and buy the work right from underneath our competition's nose”. They might not even notice ...

I can see it now, Fleming will address the meeting. He will tell members that he has a [edited by admin] plan.

Then, as is his wont, he'll pass the buck to the committee member designated as "BALDRICK" for the occasion, who will proceed to cok it up and get the flakbak.

Fleming will then skulk back into the background and hope no one realises how desperately he needs the job, expense account and "status".

SNAFU.

You already know I dislike having to deal with simpletons. But pin your lugs back and I'll take you through it again.

First, more taxis, the same number of drivers. Do you understand this? Taxis don't pick people up, drivers do.

Second, drivers have to be on parade, paying rental for the privilege, whether the work is there or not. De-restriction, with drivers driving their own vehicles, will allow drivers to spend quiet periods with their family or golf club, and come out to work when it's busier. And hey, customers will benefit because there will be more taxis available for them when they need them.

And hey also, they won't have to drive halfway across the city to go to work, and halfway back again when they've finished. Less driving, less fossil fuel used, de-restriction is therefore the GREENER policy - REDUCE, reuse, recycle - the council's own policy tagline.

And hey also again, releasing more vehicles into the fleet will help stimulate a hard pressed vehicle and service market at a time when the economy is on its arse-end.

A GREEN policy that delivers real economic benefits, justice for drivers and real service improvements for customers.

It's a win win all round for politicians.

Nay lad middle row behind Lesley Meredith. What I'd give for 10 minutes of naughty time with her when I was 14.

I actually agree 100% with this paragraph. It should be about working smarter and not longer.

Dearie me. So you couldn't even pull.

So, you're now an admitted double inadequate?

Shouldn't you be shaking off the yolk of failure and seeking the strength of self determination?

Who knows, you might just enjoy it
