Private hire numbers increase in Edinburgh :shock: Well that's what i'm hearing :?:

I've been thinking about the growth of Private hire for a while and what can be done to slow down the growth especially in Edinburgh :?:

I don't mind individuals gaining a PHC licence but when a company ask's for mass multiples i do have a concern as surely and as has been proved organised crime gangs are infiltrating the PHC market, the laws concerning PHC licences are allowing organised criminals to set up PHC firms legally :shock: Basically opening the door with a welcome mat for criminals to set up a way to money launder, car rackateer and profiteer etc

If a phc company go to an LA and ask for mass multi licences, what is the procedure :?: What is the chance of that company getting there hands on mass PHC licences :?:

What i would like to see to help stem the flow, (close the door, take away the welcome mat), is if a PHC company ask for multipile PHC licences the LA ask's that company to prove demand and at that companies own expense, a survey of demand/audit by an LA approved surveyor/Auditor to prove that their company has un-met demand.

Now the PHC market is strictly telephone booking, i'm thinking any call for mass PHC licences due to un-met demand would be hard to prove, :?: It would also allow for an independant body the chance to look at PHC companies books etc To prove if they do have un-met demand and would require more licences :roll:

Now i don't know if an LA can ask a PHC company to prove un-met demand and at that companies own expense but surely making PHC companies prove un-met demand before issueing x amount of licences is a way to stem the flow of PHCs :wink:

Every chance, but they still have to be owned and driven by 'fit and proper' people.

You need to speak to your MPs/MSPs.

As all the above would need legislative change.

Dougie, you've buried your head in the sand so long it's atrophied.

You want restriction. You get private hire. With lower regs. More growth potential.

Glasgow 1400 cabs. 3500 private hire.

That's where Edinburgh is going.

I hope crime gangs do take over PH. And I hope they run drugs. And launder money. And take part in every crime scam they can.

Because that's what you and your crooked council clowns have brought us. It's what YOU deserve.

Perhaps thenext drug overdose delivered by a PH will be Cllr Keir's fault.

Be in no doubt in my manor if they delimited then taxis would increase in numbers and PH would fall.

Thats because your council insist on a WAV being provided to be a hack, and owners voting with there wallets by buying a cheap saloon and go PH

I wonder what would happen in an area where all hacks where forced to buy a LTI WAV , and every owner decided to go PH instead, it could happen one day if fuel keeps going up

New drivers have 3 choices at the moment.

Buy a WAV taxi
Buy a PH
Hire a taxi (saloon usually)

Not forgetting the alternative option:
Illegally hire someone's taxi plate. That's very popular here.

Restriction will remove the first option, leaving the others open.
It does nothing to stem the flow of new drivers.
