The comments section at the bottom of the page makes for interesting reading. Most of the posters seem to be in favour of the driver charging.

Of course the driver should charge. What assistance should he have given? He is not qualified and if something had gone wrong............

IMO he should have refused to take any money, and she should have insisted he did.

The mess to the vehicle is an issue he shouldn't have to pay out of his own pocket, but charging the waiting time done him no favours.

If I had been the driver I would have said, "don't worry about the mess as long as you and the baby are OK I'm happy". Some drivers really get my back up.

Why should this get your back up. It is not as though the car didn't need cleaning is it? It is not as though the car would not have been off the road and the driver unable to earn whilst it was being cleaned is it? Why should the driver be out of pocket?
It very commendable that you would have taken the hit yourself but I can't see how you can object to someone else being paid what is rightfully his. He was not trying to rip the woman off was he?

I suppose there is one scenario that might have been in play that we haven't considered.

And that's the driver might have been a journeyman not an owner.

Oh come on please the stuff isn't poison it's hardly going to melt your seats, 20 minutes with a decent extraction machine and your good to go again.

This parasite driver with his eyes glued to the meter are the sort that need weeding out and signs being put on their cars saying, "I'll extract every penny I can from you".

This was a life being bought into the world something any man would be proud to be in attendance of.

I would call an ambulance and give the woman every assistance, I would not want any harm to come to mother or baby, and I would not want paying regardless of the mess, remember you as a driver have a duty of care in situations like this
The ones I do charge £70 are the drunks who cannot hold there drink in, and have so far only had to do that once in the last 3 years.


PS, If she named it Jasbar I would charge her double :lol:

It could seriouly Knacker the rest of your days work....What does the Bill of Human rights have to say or the Equality Bill...why should Mr Nice Cabby lose out on a days Takings, It should be the Drivers choice.

Though I Wouldnt charge personally..but as a PH I might swerve round the job in the first place and advise using an ambulance..aint that what the things are for?

Imagine the money to be had by the "NO Win-NO Fee" lawyers if god forbid, something were to go drastically wrong in your charge in your car..what starts out as you being helpfull could end up costing you your business...no thank you!!!

Is there a Clause somewhere that Says you cant charge? :roll:

The seats may be cloth and take a day to dry. If you were a woman giving birth, I am sure you would not have time to look at the driver all the while and tell that he was "staring at the meter". Maybe he was not to look at what was happening in case he was accused of being a peeping tom. Also most drivers seem to be doing very little work so losingt the shifts takings could mean that he can't pay his mortgage or that his family can't eat for the da. You can't possibly know the drivers circumstances. The drivers side has not been given.
