Airport distribution deal is fuel for thought

Leading law firm Irwin Mitchell’s corporate team has helped an independent petroleum distributor to clinch a deal to provide fuel for London’s Black Cab drivers at Heathrow airport.

The team was sole adviser on the deal, which will see Mabanaft establish a fuel bunkering station in a special area provided by Heathrow’s owner, BAA.

Kevin [edited by admin], who heads Irwin Mitchell’s corporate team in Yorkshire, said: “This is an innovative arrangement for supplying taxis with fuel at one of the busiest airports in the world.

“This is a fantastic development for all concerned, it opens up additional revenue streams for Mabanaft, while providing a quality and much needed fuel service at Heathrow for taxi drivers.”

Mark Rolph, managing director of Mabanaft, said: “We are delighted to have agreed this deal with BAA.

“We have worked with the Irwin Mitchell team on a number of occasions and they have a proven track record of helping us complete deals.”

Irwin Mitchell’s Corporate Team also led a delegation of leading professional services representatives on an international trade mission to India and advised on a global deal to acquire PPL Polyurethane Products Ltd by global industrial group Trelleborg.

I bet the deal was a very expensive one to conclude so I doubt they can afford to sell at preferential rates

There's already plenty of petrol stations around Heathrow anyway - off the top of my head:

Texaco - Bath Road
BP - Hatton Cross
Esso - Southern Perimeter Road
Total - Bath Road (towards Colnbrook)

and for supermarket fuel, there's a Tesco on Fagg's Road not far from Hatton Cross.

I suppose it would be handy if the new fuel service would be located in or near the feeder park, but there's no mention of that either.

I suppose this partially replaces the petrol station that was inside the airport but is it what the cabbies want or an opportunity for the airport to make more money out of them ?

even fuel cards cant beat forecourt prices, i cant see bunkered fuel being cheaper, especially for small users who trade in cash mainly, abd arent vat regd

when i ran 3 LWB vans for courier work each spending £1200 a month in fuel and vat regd it could have beenfeasible but they wanted £1000 deposit and the rates per ltr were not low enough to justify it, with most HC/PH being owne drivers, tradin in cash and not (mainly) wanting a paper trail (remember many bunkers are card only and unmanned) i cant see how this taxi-bunker would be of much use

As long as it's not chemicaly treated red derv like the last mob who set up at the Royal Oak Taxi cafe.

They all got nicked, and several cabs had major problems in the engine dept.

red derv is white with red dye added AND a chemical tracer that HMRC can detect for years in a tank when used onec....

I'm aware of that thanks. :wink:

This group of clowns were using various chemicals to remove said dye, then selling it on at a massive profit whilst fecking up many engines in the process.

Drivers went for it as the Royal Oak pump prices were always about 3p a litre cheaper than other garages.

HMRC raided the place and arrested the gang.
