Taxi drivers’ anger over inspection

TAXI drivers claim they were frightened into turning up at the city council MOT station for an inspection for fear of losing their livelihood over the busy Easter weekend.

All 109 Hackney cabs in the area were given a letter from the city council saying they had to present their vehicles in respect of switches for the roof lights on their vehicles at the White Lund station between 10am and 2.30pm last Thursday, the day before Good Friday.

Advice from The National Private Hire Association said taxi drivers should not respond to the letter - but many were frightened not to turn up for fear of having their licence suspended.

Andy Kay, chairman of the Lancaster City Hackney Cabs Proprietors Association, said: “The city council are applying the rules and regulations to suit their needs, rather than as they are intended.”

So because one, or maybe a few more, driver tries it on, all drivers have to have it changed on the same afternoon. :?

No!!

But I would imagine that those cabs that have the fiddle switch would have their licences suspended with immediate effect.

Well I was certainly expecting an ignorant and patronising remark rather than a proper response, it was just a case of who would be ignorant and patronising enough to get their first. :D

Never worn one - you know what they say; it's easy to spot the Englishman or foreigner in Scotland - he's the one wearing the kilt

Indeed, and I suspect only Brummie thinks he knows what it's all about - although whether it actually is is another matter - but no doubt there'll be a bit of points scoring before we actually get to the facts of the matter.

But I love the photo used to illustrate the story on the newspaper's website:
