I have a question can any hackney driver who has a Manchester hackney badge & plate work in a brum office as a private hire driver in brum even though he is not licensed by brum because ive been told if i have a hackney plate & badge i can work in any private hire office in the country & in brum there is so many hackney carriage vehicles working through private hire offices even though they are not licensed by brum is this legal?

I don't think it is. The car, driver and booking office should all be with the same council.

To my knowledge, it's NOT ILLEGAL!!

That's what the Berwick case was all about.

Yes, if it's a PH vehicle, but a HC can take pre-bookings anywhere, and without an operator's licence.

Legal in terms of operating, but the driver/vehicle would have to be careful where they waited for work, so not to give rise to an illegal plying for hire charge.

The Stockton judgement in TDO's database explains why.
