Man bailed after Stoke-on-Trent double fatal crash

29 May 2011

A man held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a crash which claimed the lives of two men has been released on police bail.

The 24-year-old was driving a car which was involved in a head-on collision with a taxi on Victoria Road, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, early on Saturday.

The 31-year-old taxi driver and a 29-year-old passenger died, while a 31-year-old man was critical on Sunday.

The car driver, from Trentham, was released pending further inquiries.

Blue Jaguar

He was in the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in a serious condition on Sunday, police said.

The man described as critical in the same hospital on Sunday was a passenger in the grey Skoda Octavia taxi and is from Fenton.

The collision at about 0105 BST on Saturday involved a blue Jaguar XK8 travelling from the direction of Hanley towards Fenton and a taxi going the other way.

The taxi driver, from Normacot, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The 29-year-old passenger in the taxi who died in hospital was from Fenton.

All the cabby wanted to do was earn a few quid on a Saturday night, and all the punter wanted to do was to get home safely.

Not asking that much really.

Sadly that didn't happen. :sad:
