Chelsea star gets into cab business

Chelsea and England footballer Joe Cole has invested some of his fortune in the family minicab firm
MILLIONAIRE footballer Joe Cole is to invest some of his cash - in the family minicab firm.

The Chelsea and England star has lodged an application with Camden Council asking for planning permission to convert a building in Arlington Road, Camden Town, into an office for the family taxi business, Meter Cars, which is currently in Kentish Town Road.

Cole, who was brought up in Camden, bought the property in January for £700,000. It was the home of the Camden Chinese Community Centre until it moved out two years ago.

The proposal, put by Joseph John Cole, of Romford, asks for a "change of use from food and drink to office to be used as a booking office and radio control room only for minicabs".

Residents can comment on the proposal to Camden Council but it is not expected to attract many objections as the new office will not be open to the public and drivers will not park or sit in their cabs outside or nearby while waiting for fares.

Meter Cars' registered address is in Harlow, Essex. The firm's directors are listed as Cole's adoptive father, George Cole, and his uncle, Brian Cole.

Cole made his England debut in 2001 as a substitute against Mexico and started his first game against Cameroon a year later.

He began his career with West Ham before switching to Chelsea in August 2003 for £6.6million.

Meter Cars? Uncle George Cole, formerly of Castlehaven Road, Oh dear, many a story could be told about these two names, but I fear libel may come into it. eusasmiles.zip

A firm and individual best avoided.

No, this was personal dealings I had on several occasions with the named individual.

I'm the only London driver who hates football, Classic FM, BBC LDN, and a bit of LBC for me....
