This was de-restriction without quality controls. We have controls. We should have more. What we shouldn't have is worker's rights being denied by control freaks protecting vested interests. But there again, with a nasty party in power, exercising it's renowned fascist control, what can we expect? Anyone think parochial little scotland will give these fascists the ultimate control over us?

Well they certainly 'deregulated' vehicle numbers, but precisely what else changed isn't clear, but I don't think that by any stretch of the imagination what happened could be called deregulation more generally. Administration and enforcement wise there were certainly changes, but what precisely happened regarding quality control is unclear, but fares were certainly never deregulated, although as Brummie said they did implement a national fare structure, although as I recall it this happened a few years after numbers were derestricted and was one consequence of having a national regulator. OF course, it's easy to link it all up with the numbers aspect, but the truth of the matter will be somewhat different; I mean, no doubt many of the problems evident on the programme would have been happening before the big event, but of course when numbers are restricted the vested interests tend to see such things differently. And you could probably make a very similar programme on the UK trade, restricted numbers or not.
