Violent fugitive could be resort cabbie

A member of the public reported a sighting of Pietka on Raikes Parade, Blackpool, at 11.30am on Monday

Police today appealed for information about a wanted man after a sighting of him in Blackpool.

Damien Pietka, 20, a Polish national, was recalled to prison after breaching the terms of his licence following his release from prison in February for the original offence of violent disorder.

An appeal for information was featured on the BBC Crimewatch Programme on Monday.

Following the programme, a member of the public has come forward and reported a sighting of Pietka on Raikes Parade, Blackpool, at 11.30am on Monday.

Police have also received information he may be working as a taxi driver in Blackpool.

Insp John Clucas said: “We believe that Pietka left the Lancashire area soon after his release in 2010 and travelled to central Europe but now it would appear he has returned to the area and so I would urge people in Blackpool and the surrounding areas to be vigilant and report any sightings to police. Any details the public may have could be crucial.”

Pietka is described as being around 5ft 10in tall, slim build with hazel eyes, and speaks with an eastern European accent.
