Frank writes: Quote: The taxi trade in Edinburgh now is for pathetic guys whose wives earn more than they do,
Otherwise they would be getting out quick smart. Most of the drivers are stuck there because they have debts to the IR or elsewhere, and self employment means that their wages can't get arrested. It's pathetic. At one time the taxi trade was something that you could earn decent money and be proud of your work. That is long gone now, a driver could earn better money working in Mcdonalds. The fact that the drivers that are left are happy for the plate owners, or taxi barons if you wish, to rip the p*ss out of them with their overly expensive rentals shows just how pathetic the drivers that are left are. Talk to some of the staff at the cab office, it was once the case of drivers fearing losing their licence if they behaved badly. Now they just don't care, losing a taxi drivers licence generally means a shift up in society. I had initially thought that I would keep my licence valid, so that if I was not getting enough work with my two trucks then I could do a couple of shifts to keep an income going. But this did happen a few weeks ago, I realised that I could earn the same doing a couple of shifts on coaches as I could doing a week in a taxi. So I can't see me coming back. So with that I WILL take my leave, and leave you guys with your thoughts that things will get better, even though you can't give any reasons for that to happen. BYE. Spot on Frank

That's why I've always made the distinction of driving a cab to earn money and actually being a taxi driver. To be a taxi driver you've got to be an ar*e licking piece of scum like Dougie Smith.
You are welcome to it

Incidentally Dougie, the phone calls I've had from owners looking forward to selling up, and drivers looking forward to bailing out, would make your hair curl. Enjoy!

The guys looking forward to selling out are waiting for the right mug, whereas the drivers', the opportunity of another job.
