http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=98912&command=displayContent&sourceNode=98821&contentPK=8002702 POLICE IN CAB ADVICE 12:00 - 03 December 2003 Plymouth: Police have warned clubbers to make sure they use properly licensed and marked cabs after a Plymouth woman mistakenly got into a private car she thought was a taxi. The woman got into the silver Ford Mondeo after leaving a club at about 2.20am on Sunday. After a short distance the woman became aware that she was not travelling in a taxi and got out. Police have stressed that in this case the driver did not make any improper suggestions or act illegally, but are warning people to make sure they use marked and licensed taxis. __________________________________________________________ thankfully not a repeat of the Wakefield tragedy last weekend. but could easily of ended with something happening to the woman. about time the new london touting laws were extended UK wide i think. |

Yes, the OFT seemed concerned about people getting into unlicensed cabs, but said nothing about things that could be done to try to prevent this, such as local policies and practices that just confuse the public. De-limitation will increase supply, but this is only scratching the surface of the problem Indeed, the DDA will just make matters significantly worse in many areas. Dusty |
