Council is forcing me to spend cash on a gas guzzler

AN AIRDRIE taxi driver is accusing council bosses of being two-faced for forcing him to buy a more powerful car that guzzles more gas.

Alexander Gray says the council talks about being eco-friendly but can’t understand why he needs to spend money on a car that is more damaging to the environment.

And he is also questioning why he needs to get a more powerful car when the council has spent thousands asking drivers to go slower in 20’s Plenty zones.

Alexander said: “I don’t see why they want me to spend more money on a car with a more powerful engine when the one I already have is fine.

“They’ve spent thousands putting up these 20’s Plenty areas everywhere and they want me to buy a bigger car, a car that will cost more in insurance, a car that will use more fuel and a car that will be more powerful, just for me to go at 20 miles an hour.

“Our fuel emissions are really low and if I have to get a turbo car then it means I’m going to be using more fuel and producing more emissions. The council are meant to be environmentally-friendly, so why would they want this?

“I’ve spent money having a swivel seat installed for the elderly and the disabled, and now I’m going to have to spend more money on a new car that I don’t need.”

Like many other taxi drivers in Monklands, Alexander drives a Skoda Octavia 1.9 but has been told by the council that specifications have changed and he must have a turbo car.

The Advertiser asked the council for an explanation but didn’t get one.

Walter Kilgour, head of the council’s Legal Services, said: “It would not be appropriate for us to give details of individual licence holders. There have been some changes to taxi licensing policies recently and all taxi operators have been informed of these changes.

“If anyone has a query about their particular circumstances, we would ask them to contact our licensing officers for advice and assistance.”

Did you know that you could sue the council for all they have got if they force you to change, as the skoda octavia sdi is licenced by every council in the uk, see a solisitor and claim leagal aid and tell your solisitor that you want a grand a week of the council untill they licence it, and dont take no crap from them
