Taxi course plans

Taxi drivers in South Ribble may soon be able to sit a new test to qualify them for a cab licence. South Ribble Council licensing chiefs will decide next week whether to include NVQ Certificate in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving to their list of approved courses drivers can undertake to gain a licence.

The licensing committee recently added Driving Standards Agency’s test to their list. Blackpool and The Fylde College is offering the NVQ and a Btec course free of charge to applicants who do not already hold a Level 2 qualification, subject to government funding. There had been concern among South Ribble cab firms in June when it looked like test fees would rise if funding was lost.
