Survey says London black cabs are best taxis in the world

London’s famous black cabs have been voted the world’s best taxis, but also the priciest.

Nearly 5,000 world travellers from 23 countries were surveyed by Hotels.com, and London’s taxis came out ahead of New York’s yellow cabs.

London was top in five of the seven categories voted on, including safety, friendliness, cleanliness, quality of driving and knowledge of the area.

While London’s cabs were voted the most expensive, Bangkok’s cabs offered the best value for money, according to the poll.

However, the Thai capital’s drivers were also voted the worst in the world.

Hotels.com communications director Alison Couper said: “It’s great to hear that London has won the best taxi accolade for the fourth year running.”

Is that really a compliment.

FFS those driving tuk tuks in Mumbai, IMO, come ahead of New York cabbies.

The problem is that London cabbies think they are the best because they have a good memory, and those international experts are comparing good drivers (London) with sh** drivers (New York).

I think you are missing my point.

It's great that travel people have voted London cabbies as the best cabbies in those 22 cities, but that doesn't make them the best in the world.

They don't do anything that either you or me don't do on a daily basis, other than have to remember loads more streets.

That doesn't make them better professionals then you or me.

I feel that London drivers command considerably greater incomes and have been in position to have the time and money to form united representative organisations that alongside the manufacturers sell the "London Cab" icon to the masses. Its an exercise in "spin" that with the time and the money could have been emulated anywhere else in the UK if drivers started thinking "outside the box".

So knowing your area 110% compared to areas that have little or no topographical test isn't better? :D

Lets not forget the 100% WAV fleet, the disability training, the DSA test, the years of commiting to becoming a Taxi driver . . .

Which other area tests a drivers personality over 12 / 15 / 20 or more one to one appearances? Another safeguard! More professional, it's bred into us!

Is that a pair of green eyes peeping over the South Downs?! Image

By heck you London Cabbies must be good, you know 10% more than already exists! I suppose that means you have all studdied the plans for new roads and streets in the big city?

No not really.

Look I hope you and your colleagues earn fortunes, good luck to you, but having a good memory doesn't make you the best cabbies.

An accolade like this to London cabbies will in the eyes of many foreign nationals mean all UK cabbies
