Man jailed after taxi driver robberies

A man has been sent to prison after carrying out two knife-point robberies on taxi drivers. Leigh Alder, aged 21, of Malvern Drive, Fullers Slade, was sentenced to four years in prison at Huntingdon Crown Court last Tuesday, after pleading guilty to carrying out two robberies on February 27 last year.

Alder carried out the robberies in Malvern Drive and Galley Hill, Stony Stratford. In the Stony Stratford incident, the driver was stabbed in the face and sustained injuries to his face and hands.

Det Con Phil Walsh, investigating officer, said: “Leigh Alder carried out two attacks on two men while they were simply trying to earn a living. “The attack left both victims frightened and while one was cut on his face, it is fortunate that neither driver sustained worse injuries.

“While I am pleased that Alder will be behind bars for the near future, this incident underlines how important it is that drivers carry out a few basic precautions when picking up a fare.”

These include asking all passengers to take hoods down, keeping all cash, valuables and personal property out of sight, keeping doors locked until the fare has been confirmed and the customers assessed.

They are also advised to only take bookings from fares that have pre-booked and given full name and contact number, if suspicious, ask control to call fare back to reconfirm booking just prior to pick-up, keep the amount of money in the taxi to a minimum and empty it regularly and keep cash used for change separate from cash from takings.

Another example of our police not living in our world.

I heard we had one slashed up over the weekend, sad times and he was well outnumbered again, the way things are the only cure to this is an eye 4 an eye, at least then these people would know what it's about to receive back.

Another mate had hassle, drug run that developed, bloke was a little mouse until he picked his friends up and then the Superman suppository kicked in, still we must concede it's only fair the lazy and underprivileged have license to take the urine.
