Taxi driver found lying in lay-by with serious head injuries

A black cab driver has been found with serious head injuries in a lay-by in Midlothian. The 52-year-old was discovered at around 7am on Monday next to the A68 half a mile south of Pathhead.

Police said he was found on the ground next to his taxi by a member of the public although it is not yet known how he suffered his injuries. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and his condition is described as serious but stable condition.

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for anyone with information about how the man was injured. A police spokesperson said: "This man has sustained serious injuries, and, while we do believe he was subject to an assault of some kind we are yet to establish the full circumstances.

"Our enquiries are at a very early stage, and we would appeal to anyone who may have seen a black cab in the Pathhead area last night to come forward as a matter of urgency. "I would also ask any commuters who may have passed the lay-by just prior to 7am this morning to come forward to us – they may hold vital clues about what happened to this man.”

Anyone with information can call police on 0131 311 3131 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Spooky, I passed that very Lay By on Friday night driving back down south, its an old bit of the A68 which has been by passed.

Probably come from the Jarnac Court rank in Dalkeith.

Hope he's ok.
